Adong Stella
Adong Stella was born on 2/13/98. She speaks English and Luo. She has four siblings and is the oldest. In 2005 she lost her dad to AIDS and in 2006 her mother also died from AIDS. Stella is blessed to be AIDS negative.
An uncle took over the care of the kids, but was challenged with this addition to his already large family. This arrangement lasted only a few months and all of Stella’s brothers and sisters were scattered to other families. She was left as the caretaker of the uncle’s younger children. Stella was devastated to have lost her immediate family and considered running away on many occasions.
Fortunately, a local pastor learned of Stella’s situation and helped make arrangements for her to be admitted to Otino Waa. In late 2007, she found a new home and family there.
Stella is happy to have resumed school. Math and English are her best classes and she wants to be a teacher or doctor to help people like herself. She likes playing netball with her friends. She helps with chores around the house and ushers at church.
She looks forward to hearing from her sponsors and someday meeting them. Stella wants them to know how much she appreciates their sponsorship, it is an answer to her prayers. She would like to tell them her story including her hope for a better future.

Breaking Ground
Dear friends,
The dental-medical clinic is started! The pictures
show the foundation being dug, the footings poured, and the stem wall being
set. There were about 15 men on the job so the progress is evident. What was once only a dream is now coming out of the ground and taking form. Partners like you make dreams a reality. Almost
everyone I speak to predicts it will be a busy place serving the community for
miles around.

The work on the secondary classrooms started as soon as
the children were finished with Term 1. The counters around 3 sides of the
science room were formed and rebar was tied. Then 8 sinks were set
in the counter top as concrete was poured.
At the same time, electricians were wiring
rooms with lights, plug ins, and fans and the plumbers were working on drains and water supply.
Tile has been laid in the head teacher's room, staff
room, entry, secretary's room, and science room. Classes resumed as soon as the rooms were ready. The tile is
great and the counters are looking ready for use. Another week and I think
the last details will be done!
Also, what a blessing to have the road to the town office get
worked on so it is smooth and wonderful - It is such a help.
Keep us in your prayers - this is an exciting time!

Awor Loy
Meet Loy. She was born on March 11, 1996 and has six siblings. She speaks Luo and studies English as a second language.
In 2006 her father died of liver failure. Her mother is very sick with AIDS and fully dependant on the family for care. An older brother took over as the head of the household and did the best that he could, but all of the family suffered from hunger and health issues. Education opportunities were few and far between.
In 2007, Loy’s brother was made aware of Otino Waa and he made arrangements for an interview with an administrator. Late in the year she was admitted as a “vulnerable child” to Otino Waa.
Loy is thrilled to have a new home, family school and church. She is doing well in school and hope to be a teacher some day.

A Thousand Words...
Sometimes it's hard to connect reality with places we hear and read about. We get that - Africa seems far, far away. So here are some photos to help make it seem a bit closer, a bit more real....
